FX format

The Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR is full frame (FX format) lens. Nikon's full frame lenses can be mounted on Nikon professional bodies (FX), or even cropped sensor (DX) bodies. When the lens is mounted on a DX crop Nikon camera the focal length gets boosted to 300-750mm (35mm equivalent).  

Wide focal length of 200-500mm

The Nikon 200-500mm lens features 4 popular telephoto focal lengths; enabling you to capture a wide variety of hard to reach subjects from a single lens; and zoom in, or out, to frame your subject.  

Fast f/5.6 maximum aperture

The Nikon 200-500mm ED VR features a fixed fast maximum aperture of f/5.6 throughout the entire zoom range. This gives the Nikon 200-500mm telephoto zoom lens the same light performance of standard zoom lenses (at their largest focal lenght), and makes capturing sharp pictures in dim light much easier.  

Three ED glass elements and Super Integrated coatings

Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements minimizes chromatic aberration to deliver superior sharpness and colour reproduction, and a Super Integrated coatings helps to reduce ghosting and flares  

4.5 Stop Vibration Reduction (VR) with Sport mode

The Vibration Reduction (VR) system in the 200-500mm ED VR reduces camera shake/movements to decrease blur. The VR system is rated at a 4.5 stop equivalent and enables users to shoot shutter speeds at up to 24 times slower than non-VR/IS lenses, and still get sharp and blur free images. Sport mode limits vibration reduction to the minimum needed for subjects that are moving quickly and unpredictably. The viewfinder offers a more stable image when the camera is mounted on a monopod. Even when the camera is hand-held, the image in the viewfinder remains as stable and smooth as if the camera were on a monopod, making it easier to track the subject when the camera is panned during high-speed burst shooting. Frame rate and shutter response are unaffected.  

Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism

An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism is incorporated into the lens to enable stable and reliable auto-exposure (AE) with high-speed continuous shooting.  

Silent Wave Motor

All AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's SWM which enables high-speed autofocusing that's both extremely accurate, and super quiet.  

Internal Focusing (IF)

All optical movement is limited to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel. This allows for a more compact, lightweight construction with a closer focusing distance, and makes using tinted/polarised filters a breeze.  

Monopod/tripod collar

The tripod collar provides a well-balanced and secure support when shooting from a monopod or tripod.  

Compatible with a range of teleconverters:

Teleconverters multiplies the focal length of lenses to achieve a greater reach. The Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens is compatible with the following tele-converters: TC-14E/TC-14E II* / TC-14 III* / TC-17E II / TC-20E/TC-20E II / TC-20E III * AF possible when attached to f/8-compatible camera body.
